The Men’s Prayer Breakfast at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church is in its 18th year at the church.

The free event is open to all. Please confirm attendance by calling 936-857-3272 or email: stfrancispv@sbcglobal.net.

Since its inception in 2006 as part of the Brotherhood of St. Andrews, the program has enjoyed tremendous involvement and participation with a dynamic group of men from the community, the university and other surrounding cities of Prairie View.

The breakfast is designed to inform and educate the senior and junior men living in the Prairie View area on issues pertaining to their spiritual, physical, mental, health and economics enhancement and to encourage Christian and servant leadership and nutritious dialogue among the men in the community.

The monthly breakfasts are organized and setup in the Parish Hall and occasionally we used the Rectory when it was vacant.  To date, the breakfasts have been a tremendous love of service and labor and is of no cost to the attendees.  The men of St. Francis have taken the responsibility for funding the event.  However donations are welcomed.

The main speakers’ topics have served to inform and educate the men on the importance of community service, leadership, quality of life, networking, African American History, and Christian stewardship.  Prayer for the communities occurs prior to eating and at the close of the breakfast.  The audience gets a chance to interact with the speaker during the question and answer session following the presentation.

The breakfasts have attracted a diversity of men ranging in ages 5 to 90 years old representing a variety of educational and religious backgrounds including Prairie View A&M University students, professors and staff members, Waller and Hempstead High School students, pastors of different denominations, superintendents, Mayors of Prairie View and Hempstead, and others from Houston and surrounding communities.

The group is continually redefining its goals and objectives of the breakfast and envisions expanding the program.  Part of that expansion is the hosting of the Christmas Caroling in the community, sponsoring and working with the Boys Scout and Cub Scout Troops in Prairie View and other service and community projects.   We also plan to develop a calendar of events, inclusive of the topics and the designated speakers so that others can better plan for the monthly events.

We express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the men - Drs. Glenn Berry, James Boyer, Peter Metofe and Seab Smith, Messrs. Albert Garfield, Charles Muse, Frederick Roberts, Donald Sowell, William Sowell and Herbert Thomas, the men of the community and the students of Prairie View A&M University, who have helped to make the breakfasts a success with their finances and physical participation.  We also express our thanks to the ladies in St. Francis that continue to support us from the sidelines.  Special thanks to Dr. Lucius Wyatt of First United Methodist, Reverend Richard Hayes of Primitive Baptist Church, Reverend Cube Charleston of Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor David Charleston of Imanuel Baptist Church, Reverend Fletcher Williams, Reverend Kenneth Wade of Transfiguration Baptist Church, Henry P. Kemp of Mount Corinth Baptist Church and the other men who regularly support the monthly program.  We are deeply indebted to all the men who gave of their time to come and speak at the event. Thank you all for your kind support and assistance.    (2018 Annual Report)
