The Reverend Rhonda Rogers ordained a Priest

                                      Congratulations to The Reverend Rhonda Elwena

                                      Rogers her ordination to the sacred order of priests in

                                      Christ's one, holy catholic and apostolic church.  The  

                                      glorious ceremony took place on Saturday, January 18,

                                      2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church. The

                                      Right Reverend Hector Monterosso, Bishop Assistant

                                      of the Diocese of Texas was the ordinant.  More than

                                      200 patrons, including some 50 fellow priests and

                                      deacons witnessed the ceremony.

                                   

                                      Following the ordination, family and guests were treated to a three-course meal and desert.

Rogers' ordination is the first ceremony in history to be held St. Francis of Assisi and was well attended and appreciated.

 

Reverend Rogers was ordained a Deacon at the special ordination service at Christ Church Cathedral on June 22, 2019. She became the Deacon at St. Francis of Assisi on August 26, 2019 and preached her first sermon on September 1, 2019, with Canon Joann Saylors Canon for Mission Amplification in the Diocese of Texas celebrating the Eucharist.

Rogers prepared for her service with enrollment and graduation from the Diocese of Texas' Iona School for Ministry on June 9, 2019. 

Rogers, as the bi-vocational leader, provides outreach service to members and will engage in programs and activities that enhances the spiritual growth and development of the members. She will also support a college ministry at Prairie View A&M University.

The Monthly Men's Prayer Breakfast was held on October 19, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal  Church.

The speaker is Dr. Michael Prince, member of the Board of Directors for Waller ISD and owner and host of OpenMic Broadcast Radio Station. (More here)

The breakfast is a gathering of men in the community to include professionals, retired and active and students who are committed to improving the qaulity of life in the community. It features a noted speaker who addresses relevant topics impacting the community, interspersed with the speakers personal and professional experiences.  Women are also invited to attend.

The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of St. Francis of Assisi in commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month hosted an Afternoon Tea for Cancer Awareness on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Parish Hall of the church on 200 Phillip and 204 Dooley Streets in Prairie View.

Many members of the community came out and participated in event, shared stories and be motivated to better health and awareness, while enjoying special refreshments.

Bishop Suffragan-elect Kai Ryan

The Diocese of Texas celebrated the ordination and consecration of Bishop Suffragan-Elect Reverend Kathrine Kai Ryan at 11:00 a.m. on June 1, 2019 at Westover Hills Church of Christ, 8332 Mesa Drive, Austin.  The Rt. Reverend Michael Curry, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in America will conduct the service.  The public is invited to attend.

 

Reverend Ryan serves as a Regional Bishop in the West Region of the Diocese, overseeing pastoral and administrative needs in the region. She will be the Executive for Ministry, overseeing the Commission on Ministry and the ordination process. She will also the Executive for World Mission and chairs the boards of these diocesan institutions:

El Buen Samaritano, St. Stephen's School, and Seminary of the Southwest. Nationally, she will serve on the board of Episcopal Relief & Development and on the Disciplinary Board for Bishops.

The speaker is Dr. Brian Rowland, Councilman, City of Prairie View and Financial Advisor with ING Financial Partners and Rowland Financial for the Monthly Men's Prayer Breakfast at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church on 204 Dooley Street in Prairie View.

Rowland holds the PhD in Educational Leadership, Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Community Development, Bachelors of Business Administration from Prairie View A&M University and the Bachelor of Arts from Tarleton State University.  Brian holds or has held memberships in Prairie View Chamber of Commerce, Prairie View Athletic Club, Prairie View
Volunteer Fire Department, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.-Epsilon Tau Lambda, Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association, Texas State NAACP and the Prairie View Federal Credit Union.

We also invite you to participate in our Christian Education and Bible Study on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.  Our worship service is at 11:00 a.m. Come learn the word and share in the fellowship.

Dr. David Kirkpatrick former member of the Prairie View A&M University College of Engineering and Waller ISD Board of Directors passed away on May 2, 2017 at his home in Prairie View.

Kirkpatrick lived in Prairie View for more than 40 years and served on the Waller ISD Board of Trustees since 1996 in various positions to include Secretary, Vice-President, and President of the Board.

David is a native of Chicago, Illinois and received a B.S. degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1963. He then went on to earn an M.S. degree from Kansas State College and a PhD from Purdue University. Dr. Kirkpatrick has been teaching since 1968 and is currently an Associate Professor of the Prairie View A&M University Department of Engineering Technology.

Dr. Kirkpatrick and his wife are members of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View where he served as Superintendent of the Sunday School, member of the Vestry, Junior Warden, Lay Minister and Reader, and coordinator for the Brotherhood of St. Andrews.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Loraine, two sons - David Jr. and Dwight, two daughters - Denise and Deleanor and seven grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

                                                                                         Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire, will celebrate the  Eucharist   

                                                                                         and confirmation of siblings Blessing and Obinna Ezeoka on May 11 at                                                                                     11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street

                                                                                         in Prairie View.

Bishop Tengatenga has been heavily involved in public life in Malawi primarily as Bishop of Southern Malawi since 1998 and most recently as Chair of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), a civil society interfaith organisation consisting of Christians and Muslims. PAC was instrumental in leading Malawi’s transition from one-party dictatorship to political pluralism between 1992 and 1994 when the country’s first democratic elections in 30 years were held.

 

Bishop Tengatenga is also a member of the Malawi National AIDS Commission, which co-ordinates the national response to HIV and AIDS, plus he has chaired the Malawi Council of Churches. In the wider Anglican Communion, Bishop Tengatenga has been a long-standing member of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) and of the Standing Committee. He was elected as ACC Chair in 2009, and therefore is also Chair of the Standing Committee. As the Chair and Vice Chair are elected and serve independently of their respective role as a provincial representative or co-opted member, he is able to see out his term until 2016.

 

Blessing and Obinna are the children of proud parents Vidah Ifeoma and Johnson Onyekwelu Ezeoka of Cypress, and long time members of St. Francis of Assisi.The community members are invited to attend the services.

 

In other happenings, members of the church will join with area Episcopal Parishes on May 15 in hosting the Diocesan Sharing Faith’s Dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the church’s Parish Hall, 204 Dooley Street. The area churches, St. Bartholomew’s Hempstead, St. Paul’s Navasota and St. Mary’s Bellville, will all converge at St. Francis to participate in the annual event. The event is being coordinated by Mrs. Helen S. Boyer with Mrs. Florine Muse as Moderator and Frederick V. Roberts as the assistant.  The Reverend Dr. Cynthia Engle is the Rector.

 

On May 17, the Men's Prayer Breakfast will feature Mr. Kkoby Griffin, Regional Disaster Preparedness Manager at American Red Cross, Greater Houston. The event runs 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and is free to all. The men are asked to confirm attendance by calling 936-857-3272 or email: stfrancispv@sbcglobal.net.

 

Mr. Griffin will share his community involvement through his personal and professional experiences in the military and community involvement having served in the Air National Guard, the Veteran’s Administration and Disaster Preparedness with the American Red Cross.
