                     The Reverend Rhonda Rogers joined St. Francis of Assisi on August 26

                     2019 as the Deacon in Charge. Rogers was ordained a Deacon in a special

                     ceremony on June 22 at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston.

 

                     Reverend Rogers takes over from the Reverend Dr. Cynthia Engle who

​                     who served as Rector from June 2011 - July 31, 2019.

​

                     Rev. Rogers came to the Deaconate as a Bi-vocal priest, having completed theological training with the Diocese of Texas' Iona Ministry School.  She is retired executive with the Exxon Corporation after some 38 years of service in the New York and Houston offices. 

​

As Deacon in Charge, Reverend Rogers will provide service to the Parish and assist with the spiritual development, program and activities, and assist with the college ministry at Prairie View A&M University. The members of St. Francis looks forward to working with Reverend Rogers.

                      The Reverend Joann Saylors, Canon for Mission Amplification in the

                      Diocese of Texas is the celebrant for the Holy Eucharist on Sunday,

                      September 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  Canon Saylors will also bless the

                      new ministry of Reverend Rogers and the St. Francis church family.

 

                      As Canon, Reverend Saylors leads the Mission Amplification Team’s

                      five missioners who support assist leaders and congregations in

                      planting new communities of faith, both church plants and missional

                      communities, and in nurturing existing congregations and their

leaders. The team provides coaching and consulting, as well as assessments and programs like cultural competency training and formation events. Additionally, the diocesan team helps congregations strategize and engage in effective action in response to opportunities and challenges.
