The Rt. Reverend C. Andrew Doyle, Bishop of the Diocese of Texas will celebrate the Eucharist with members of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. to commemorate the 2nd Sunday of Advent.

 

Reverend Doyle was elected bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Texas on May 24, 2008 and was consecrated on November 22, 2008 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Houston. He was seated as the ninth Bishop of Texas on June 7, 2009 at Christ Church Cathedral, Houston, following the retirement of the Rt. Rev. Don Wimberly.

 

Born in 1966 in Carbondale, Illinois, and raised in Houston, Bishop Doyle served five years as Canon to the Ordinary prior to his election. Bishop Doyle holds a bachelor of fine arts from the University of North Texas and an M. Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary. He was ordained deacon in 1995 and priest the following year. He served at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, Austin, and at Christ Church, Temple and St. Francis, College Station, Texas, prior to his appointment to the diocesan staff in 2003.

 

Bishop Doyle is a gifted and experienced teacher and preacher, and has a particular interest in reaching younger generations in order to partner with older and experienced church members to share wisdom across generations, invigorating growth and membership. He has training and expertise in mediation as well as multicultural ministry. Bishop Doyle is bilingual and looks forward to responding to an increasingly diverse population in the Diocese of Texas.

 

Bishop Doyle’s ministry includes service as a deputy to General Convention in 2006 and 2009. He served on the Dispatch of Business committee in 2006 and as a legislative aide in 2000. Locally, Bishop Doyle’s ministry includes a broad range of experience on boards including the diocesan foundations, finance, and communication, Mission Funding, the diocesan Executive Board and the Hispanic Commission.

 

A published author and accomplished painter, Doyle and his wife JoAnne have two daughters, Zoë, 9 and Caisa, 14.

 

Bishop Doyle is no stranger to St. Francis, having visited the church on several occasions during his priest tenure in the Diocese.

 

The public is invited to the service which will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

The Rt. Reverend Dena Harrison, Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Texas will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi

​​The Rt. Reverend Dena Harrison, Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Texas will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with baptismal and confirmation services at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View on Sunday, October 2 at 3:00 p.m.  The candidates are for baptism Tyler Stafford and for confirmation Dr. Carla Whittaker. The candidates have attended training classes over the few months.  The public is invited to the service which will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

Reverend Harrison was elected to Bishop Suffragan in June 2006 and was consecrated in October 2006.

Born in Lufkin and reared in Orange, Bishop Harrison attended The University of Texas at Austin where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.  

After receiving her Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in 1987, Bishop Harrison served as assistant rector at All Saints’ Church, Austin, and as rector of St. James’ Church, La Grange, and St. James the Apostle Church, Conroe. From 2000-2003, she served as Canon to the Ordinary and served as Archdeacon and Canon for Ministry until her election as Bishop Suffragan in 2006. She manages the Austin Diocesan Center and serves the central region of the diocese.

Bishop Harrison has served the diocese as a deputy to General Convention and as a member of the Division of Christian Education, the Executive Board, the Standing Committee, and the Mission Funding Committee. In addition, she has served as a trustee of The Bishop Quinn Foundation and St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities and is currently serving as a trustee of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital System and the Chair of the Board of Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest.  In August 2015, the Seminary named a new fellows program in honor of the Bishop Harrison that will support training of graduates of the Seminary's counseling program.

Bishop Harrison is married Larry Harrison, a CPA and they are the proud parents of a son and a daughter and they have four grandchildren. The Harrisons reside in Austin.

Additionally, the church will host a blessing of the animals on Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  The public is invited to bring their animals, including stuffed animals for the blessing.  Veterinarians will be on hand to provide shots at a minimal fee. The Rt. Reverend James Tengatenga, former Bishop of Southern Malawi to confirm members at St. Francis of Assisi

The Rt. Reverend James Tengatenga, former Bishop of Southern Malawi, now dean of the Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire, will celebrate the the Eucharist and confirmation of siblings Blessing and Obinna Ezeoka on May 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street in Prairie View.

 

Bishop Tengatenga has been heavily involved in public life in Malawi primarily as Bishop of Southern Malawi since 1998 and most recently as Chair of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), a civil society interfaith organisation consisting of Christians and Muslims. PAC was instrumental in leading Malawi’s transition from one-party dictatorship to political pluralism between 1992 and 1994 when the country’s first democratic elections in 30 years were held.

 

Bishop Tengatenga is also a member of the Malawi National AIDS Commission, which co-ordinates the national response to HIV and AIDS, plus he has chaired the Malawi Council of Churches. In the wider Anglican Communion, Bishop Tengatenga has been a long-standing member of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) and of the Standing Committee. He was elected as ACC Chair in 2009, and therefore is also Chair of the Standing Committee. As the Chair and Vice Chair are elected and serve independently of their respective role as a provincial representative or co-opted member, he is able to see out his term until 2016.

 

Blessing and Obinna are the children of proud parents Vidah Ifeoma and Johnson Onyekwelu Ezeoka of Cypress, and long time members of St. Francis of Assisi.The community members are invited to attend the services.

 

In other happenings, members of the church will join with area Episcopal Parishes on May 15 in hosting the Diocesan Sharing Faith’s Dinner at 6:00 p.m. in the church’s Parish Hall, 204 Dooley Street. The area churches, St. Bartholomew’s Hempstead, St. Paul’s Navasota and St. Mary’s Bellville, will all converge at St. Francis to participate in the annual event. The event is being coordinated by Mrs. Helen S. Boyer with Mrs. Florine Muse as Moderator and Frederick V. Roberts as the assistant.  The Reverend Dr. Cynthia Engle is the Rector.

 

On May 17, the Men's Prayer Breakfast will feature Mr. Kkoby Griffin, Regional Disaster Preparedness Manager at American Red Cross, Greater Houston. The event runs 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. and is free to all. The men are asked to confirm attendance by calling 936-857-3272 or email: stfrancispv@sbcglobal.net.

 

Mr. Griffin will share his community involvement through his personal and professional experiences in the military and community involvement having served in the Air National Guard, the Veteran’s Administration and Disaster Preparedness with the American Red Cross.
